Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson is currently serving as Director, Fort Mojave Indian Health Center, Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, responsible for overseeing the planning, development, organization, integration, administration, and evaluation of a comprehensive health delivery system.
Prior to joining Fort Mojave Indian Health Center, Michael served as Chief Health Administration Service, Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, Tucson, Arizona, from November 22, 2020, to May 12, 2023. During this tour, he was hand selected and served as Interim Associate Director for the for the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System, Prescott, Arizona, from October 9, 2022, to March 25, 2023. He was also hand selected and served with the VISN-22 Primary Care Integrated Clinical Communities (PC-ICC) as the Subject Matter Expert for Health Administration from March 2021 to October 2022.
Prior to his role as Chief Health Administration Service, Michael served with the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, Honolulu, Hawaii, as Interim Chief Health Administration Service, Deputy Chief Health Administration Service; Group Practice Manager; Interim Equal Opportunity Manager; Interim Health System Specialist to the Associate Director Patient Care Services; Program Specialist and Administrative Officer Specialty Care, from February 2014 to November 2020.
Prior to joining the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, Michael was a member of the State of Hawaii Executive Branch, assigned as the Administrative Services Assistant to the State Land Administrator, Land Division, Department of Land and Natural Resources, supporting the Land Administrator in the management of over 1.3 million acres of State-owned lands in ways that promote the well-being of Hawaii’s people and insure lands are used in accordance with the goals, policies and plans of the State, from January 2013 to February 2014.
Prior to relocating to Hawaii from Okinawa, Japan, Michael provided daily direction, management and coordination in a dual capacity role as the Director, Marine Corps Family Team Building and Family Readiness Program Manager for the Asia Pacific Region; including Hawaii; orchestrating a multinational team reinforcing and sustaining a state of personal and family readiness for Marines, sailors, and families with tools and resources needed to successfully meet the challenges of the military lifestyle; and enhancing mission readiness by providing preventative education across the life cycle of a Marine’s career from March 2008 to January 2013.
Michael served as the Pacific Area Budget Officer and Inter-Service Support Agreement Manager for the Department of Dependent Schools – Pacific, from April 2006 to March 2008, where he successfully managed a budget of $300 million dollars, supporting 45 schools serving over 22,000 children of U.S. military and eligible DoD civilian personnel families stationed throughout the Pacific theater; graphically organized into three districts (Pacific East, South, and West) serving 21 U.S. military installations across the Pacific: Japan (PAC-East), Okinawa (PAC-South) and Korea, Guam (PAC-West).
A Veteran himself, Michael completed a 26-year distinguished career with the United States Marine Corps and retired during May 2006, as a Chief Warrant Officer-4. Michael grew up in a family with a long tradition of military service. His father, Army Chief Warrant Officer-3 (Retired), was a part of Pacific Island campaign during World War II and subsequently was part of the Korea War and awarded a Bronze Star.
Michael was born in Taichung, Taiwan, and raised in Portland, Oregon. He is a graduate from the University of Oklahoma where he earned a Master of Human Relations and a graduate from Chapman University with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, with departmental honors.
In addition to his bachelor’s and master’s degree, Michael is a graduate of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Academy (Level I) and the North County Reserve Policy Academy (Level II); and served with the Oceanside California Police Department as a Reserve Police Officer during his career with the Marine Corps.
Michael is a graduate from the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 21/22 Leadership Developmental Institute (LDI) program in 2016 and a graduate from the VA Health Care Leadership Development Program (HCLDP) in 2019.
